Hi! I'm a technical artist and software engineer who loves prototyping and building new tech for things like animation, mixed reality, and music.
Scroll down to see a sample of my work!
In Inside Out 2, I was responsible for the animated shading, colors, and ambient effects on the strings in the Belief System.
For the long-term memory shelves, I developed a pipeline to manage the hundreds of millions of memory spheres.
In Elemental, I created a number of procedural buildings, including the waterfall tower featured in this establishing shot.
I also added animated effects to buildings throughout the city, such as sheeting water and sequins blowing in the wind.
In this shot in Elemental, I handled the matte painting setup to create this subtle homage to the periodic table of elements.
BEAM is a node-based audio effect builder that can run inside of programs like Ableton Live and Logic.
I was responsible for the node-based concept and all visuals and interactions associated with the node graph.
Presented at SIGGRAPH Asia Real-Time Live! in 2024.
The audio signal travels left to right through the effects in the graph.
Users can create new branches by dragging from one part of the beam to another.
The nodes are then laid out automatically based on the shape of your graph.
The appearance of each node changes procedurally based on the audio parameters.
For Turning Red, I developed a suite of tools for the simulation department that has been used by artists on most subsequent films.
Here is an example of a shot where artists sculpted the hair using a new technology called Hair Style Guides, presented at SIGGRAPH 2022.
Also presented at SIGGRAPH 2022 was this colorful user interface that I developed, which Pixar artists now use to manage complex hair setups.
As an engineer on Google's Playground AR app, which launched on the Pixel 3 phone, I developed AR placement interactions and text rendering capabilities.
As an engineer on Google Earth, I pitched and developed the I'm Feeling Lucky feature, which flies you to a random destination somewhere on the planet.
One of my favorite ways this feature has been used was for two videos on the YouTube channel Yes Theory, where they used it to pick a random place to go on a real-life, spontaneous trip.
I created visualizations of cell migration for the paper "Tissue topography steers migrating Drosophila border cells", published in Science Magazine.
